De_Nuke Strategy from http://www.counterstrikestrats.com/

CT side:

First Round: Player1, Player2 in the corners of the A rafters closest to the mini-garage, Player3 on A floor, Player4 in Ramp room, and Player5 watching outside from sniper's nest.

Gun Rounds: Player5 and Player2 on ramp, Player4 and Player3 upper bomb site, Player1 outside. *Player5 can move between ramp room, locker room area, heavens depending on where help is needed. Also, if they are going outside a lot, we may have Player5 go straight outside. The outside railing is a great place to play a second guy outside.

T side:
Upper Rush:
The whole team buys AKs and rushes upper site. The last guy out of T spawn stays back in lobby to watch for flanking CTs from the ramp room. Take bomb lower and plant it lower if possible. Keys to the strat: * You need a good spawn for this to work. * The first 3 guys(best 3 spawns) into site need to spread out on their way into site. The first one moves straight out, the 2nd guy moves towards the fork lift, and the 3rd guy moves towards the plant area by the boxes. The 4th guy goes out squeaky door. * Plant on the fork lift side, and keep the nest flashed if you have to plant upper.

Spread Strat:
Player3(AK) and Player5(AWP) work outside. This is where you should try to initiate. Player4(AK) waits for pushers from radio room, Player1(AK) waits for pushers from hut and the Player2(AK) watches for pushers from squeaky door. Your team is going to try to come into hut, squeaky door, and mini-garage at the same time or your team will try to get 2 guys backway b (outside players) and then try to take ramp room with the rest of your team. Keys to the strat: * You have to win the battle outside. * You can't get killed by any pushing CTs without at least trading kills. * Your team needs to listen up for the call since this is a strat that isn't very specific. The in game leader needs to make a good decision on where the team should go.

Outside Strat to Upper:
Player4 and Player3(AKs) and Player5(AWP) work outside. Player2(AK) watches the ladder from lobby to outside from on top of lobby roof. Player1(AK) watches lobby entrance to outside from on top of lobby roof. The Outside guys try to kill the CT outside guy. The outside guys will then start to work in mini-garage. When outside guys get to mini-garage, the AKs watching the flank will move into lobby and start to work hut and squeaky door. Keys to the strat: * Timing is a key to this strat. You can't get killed one at a time. * Winning the battle outside is also a key to this strat. * Use 2-3 good smokes outside to block the CTs in the locker room and to help distract the enemy.

Ramp Strat:
Player5(AWP) tries to get a pick on the ramp with help from Player2, Player4(AKs). Player3(AK) watches the hut. Player1(AK) watches the squeaky door. If Player5 gets the pick at ramp then Player2, Player4 and Player5 take ramp. Player2, Player4 and Player5 hold ramp for a bit and wait for call. Player1 and Player3 continue to watch for a push from hut/squeaky door. Your team should either continue down to B, or have one guy fake lower and have the rest of the team come back and take upper. Keys to the strat: * Listening for the call on this one is key. You can't have 2 guys go downstairs and 3 come back to try to take upper. * Being able to take the ramp with few casualties is necessary.

Squeaky Strat:
Player2, Player4, Player1 Rifles wait in squeaky room. Player3 team member lays down smoke in front of mini-garage. Player5 flashes twice into A site from roof threw the glass windows. At this time Player3 flashes mini-garage. Player2, Player4, Player1 go out squeaky door then down to lower to plant. Player5 and Player3 try to get to ramp and help the lower guys out from there. Keys to the strat: *We can't get stuck on squeaky door. *Need good flashes from player on the roof. Note: This may not work all that well against good teams. If you use this against a good team, I would suggest that the players in the squeaky room flash the site as well.

Eliminate the sniper

Snipers are very hard to take out for three reasons. They are already in position looking down one avenue of approach of their enemy, they are sometimes in pairs, and they have a long range advantage.
There are three ways to counter a sniper. Rush them with your teammates, out snipe them! Or even better go around their position to sneak up behind them.
To take out a sniper you should know how to snipe well yourself that way you will understand a snipers point of view. Snipers have a hard time successfully taking out the enemy at close range for two reasons. They switch to their pistol which takes a second and has less firepower. Secondly they have to take more carefully aimed shots.
So, if you are going to rush a sniper you should bring an autoshotty, submachine gun, or a handgun. This way when you get close enough to the sniper you will be able to mow them down quickly while they have to switch weapons or take slower carefully aimed shots than you. Now getting close to the sniper is the hard part. If you decide to rush the sniper by yourself your crazy; and you probably won’t be successful. If you rush with your team you might stand a chance; but why leave anything to chance. Make sure all the teammates that are going to rush actually rush. So buy a flash and a smoke. Chuck the smoke in the snipers line of fire (or your entrance into an open area). This will coerce more of your teammates to rush the snipers since they are less likely to be hit. After that smoke is flowing throw long well aimed flash, do not blind your teammates, then rush. Make sure that you strafe left to right and also zig zag in an unpredictable fashion. Before you know it you or your teammates will be close enough to take out the enemy with a light weapon like a submachine gun.
Then there is out sniping the sniper. Get an AWP get close to where the snipers line of fire is likely to be. Quickly jump out and nail them. Jumping is one of the best techniques because it makes you a harder target and it won’t disturb your aim. Now if there where 2 or more snipers there you are out of luck. Since snipers might be hanging out in the same area it may be extremely difficult to out snipe them. On the other hand you think there is only one sniper in a location and you can do it go for it.
Last and the funnest way to take out a sniper is to sneak up behind them. You should always follow a rush team, but you will have to go off on your own in the end. Simply go around the sniper and when you get close to their position watch out for rear security, or other teammates camping the area, a good gun to bring is a silenced weapon if you can. Remember a good sniper will periodically check their back so be careful when approaching a sniper from a distance. Once you are close to the sniper you have the upper hand two times over. Most of the time they are engrossed on waiting for that kill so that gives you the opportunity to humiliate them by knifing them. Everyone on the oppisite team will greatly appreciate it and give a good response.

Counter-Strike General Strategies

Ask any seasoned Counter-strike player and they probably have a few tips for you on how to be a better player. Heres a list gathered from the minds of the PlanetHalfLife staff -- use them wisely!

Keep moving.

Always stay on the move. A stationary target is a dead target, and you never know when theres someone on the other side of the map using a sniper rifle to draw a bead on your mellon. With very few exceptions (see the next tip below), dont ever stop moving, especially when in a firefight. Learn to use the mouse so you can aim while moving around to dodge your opponents attacks.

Crouch when shooting.

Crouching increases your accuracy, so if you get a chance to take a pot shot at someone while theyre not looking, or if youre lying in ambush, make sure to crouch so your first shot will be much more accurate. Crouching while sniping is also a must.

Keep crosshairs at head level.

When walking or running around, keep your crosshairs at around head level. This way youll have a better chance at a headshot if someone jumps out at you. It also decreases the time itll take to draw a bead on someones noggin.

Jump around corners.

When rounding corners, jump into the air and turn to face the new direction. This will make you harder to hit (especially with a headshot) to anyone lying in ambush on the other side.

Switch to the pistol when needed.

Dont underestimate your sidearm. If you run out of ammo or have to reload in the middle of a firefight, switch to your pistol and unload a few rounds while retreating. It may just save your life.

Cut your teeth right.

When starting out as a Counter-Strike newbie, get used to weapons like the MP5. Its an automatic weapon, fairly accurate, and will serve you well to build up your skills before tackling other weapons.

Master the crouch jump.

Pressing jump then crouch is an important technique to master. Itll allow you to jump onto taller obstacles, and will let you jump through narrow windows or gaps. Practice it and learn how to use it well.

Always be unpredictable.

Dont do the same thing over and over. Opponents learn fast, and good opponents learn really fast. If you score an easy kill or ambush one time, dont do it again right away. Take alternate routes through the level ocassionally. Being predictable will quickly get you killed.

Stick together, team!

Always travel in groups. The odds of survival are greatly increased when you have backup. At the start of the level dont go rushing off by yourself. Stick with your teammates and stay alive.

Learn the level and objectives.

Know thy level. If you dont, glide around in spectator mode to learn the layout and objective locations like bomb points and hostages. Pay attention to where other players go and pay attention to the layout of a map. Knowing the quickest way from point to point is key for success.

Rush the sniper.

When you spot a sniper, dont try to outshoot him. Either avoid him if possible, or rush right at him while moving erradically. Most snipers will freak once you get up close, and you can mow them down.

Use grenades.

If you can afford them, always buy a grenade at the start of a round. Toss them around corners where you suspect opponents lie, and use them to stop rushes and weaken opponents. Be careful with Flashbangs, though, as they can blind you and your teammates as easily as the opposition.

Balance your teams arsenal.

A team needs a mix of weapons. So, if you notice everybody on your team equipping to play the sniper role, buy an automatic weapon to help them out and provide cover.

Buy armor.

Dont forget to buy armor and a helmet. Itll greatly icnrease your chances of survival.

Always go for the headshot.

Headshots do lots of damage. Nuff said.

Fire in bursts.

Especially for weapons like the AK-47 that quickly lose their accuracy in automatic mode, firing in quick bursts is essential. Just tap the fire button/key quickly, then tap it again.

Cover the bomb carrier and VIP.

Always provide protection to the bomb carrier or VIP. These people are essential to your survival, so keeping them alive pays off. If you are the bomb carrier or VIP, then dont go rushing off on your own.

Check for ambushes before disarming bombs.

When you spot a planted bomb, dont rush right in and try to disarm it. Clever Terrorists will lie in ambush and try to nail anyone made vulnerable by bomb defusion. Always look for traps first.

Use cover and dark to your advantage.

Hide in dark corners and behind obstacles to make yourself harder to hit and see. This is especially important when sniping.

Listen up!

Use sound to your advantage by listening to movement sounds. This will often allow you to pinpoint the location of opponenents and avoid running into them headfirst. You should also learn to croush or hold down the walk key (shift by default) to mute your own movement. Finally, use headphones or loud speakers to make things easier to hear.

Shoot through walls.

Some weapons can shoot through some walls. Learn which weapons and which walls so that you can use this fact to your advantage. If you see or hear someone duck behind a fragile barrier, you can put them down with total impunity.

Use hostages for cover.

Opponents who kill hostages earn a cash penalty, so using hostages for cover is a good, if cruel, tactic. Of course, it makes it hard to shoot back yourself...

Reload before running out.

If you can help it, dont wait until youre totally out of ammo to reload. And if you can, seek cover while reloading, since it makes you quite vulnerable.

Buy a better pistol.

You may often have to rely on your sidearm, so upgrade it if you can afford to. It makes a lot of difference.

Learn radio commands.

Use the radio commands quickly to communicate efficiently. And dont hesitate to respond to them if you hear them. When someone says "I need cover", they probably mean it!

Switch to lighter weapons to run.

Readying lighter weapons like pistols and the knife allows you to run much more quickly, so its a good strategy when you need to get into position quickly --like at the start of a level.

Snap out of sniping mode

When youre zoomed in on someone, quickly double tap the "next weapon" key to snap out of zoom mode, switch to another weapon, then switch back to the sniper rifle. This is great if you need to move or dodge quickly.

Watch the Crouching

Be careful when you duck down for that acuracy shot because those who dont duck usually keep there crosshair at waist level. Most people also aim for the biggest part on there oppenents body. It, always being the shoulders to the waist. Or if you are battling it out with another player standing up, dont duck your sure to get shot in the head.
Submitted by Nick MacEwen

Duck and Jump and Hop

When jumping to make yourself a harder target, crouch as well. This makes you an even smaller target
Submitted by [THERIA] ~paulias~

Gimme a Boost!

You can get to high places by "boosting". One player should crouch and the other one should jump on top of him. If you need to get even higher, the player above can jump and the player below should let go of his crouch key.
Submitted by Musse

Gamma Correction

Turn your gamma up, which allows you to usually see players hiding in darker areas. (ie, dust, in the hallright next to the 2 stack of boxes...)
Submitted by Howie

Flashbangs are Better

ALWAYS buy flashbangs.. In my experience/opinion they are far more effective than an H.E. or smoke.. Throw them into a room where badguys will most likely be, or save them on you and use them if/when you get pinned down, timing is critical so that u dont flash yourself! rush in RIGHT after/when it goes off and shoot the blind bastards!
Submitted by Mr. DrunK

Circle Strafe

Use Circle Strafing when in a close combat situation... Circle strafing (for those who dont know is when you strafe around your opponent always facing them).
Submitted by Tom Hartnett

The Old Bait n Snipe

If youre gonna snipe or hide, always do it in the least expected place. Hide in vents, or over doorways and have a free shot at anyone that passes underneath. You could also "bait" someone by leaving a hostage out in the open and hiding nearby in the shadows. Theyll rush for the hostage, right into your line of fire.
Submitted by Captain_Insano999

Dont Give it Away

Use team chat! It can be useful to organist your team or to decide what to do next round. Far too many people blurt out their tactics over public chat, leaving the enemy with a good opportunity to counter it.

Give em a Hand!

Dont block your teammates line of fire, dont block their line of movement while retreating or strafing. And if a teammate is being shot at, dont just let him die. Toss a grenade if possible and join the fight. Because if they kill him, then theyre coming after you next. Better to stop them sooner than later.
Submitted by Irvington_Idiot_#2

Bind New Commands

Using the console, I would recommend binding keys to quickly say messages that arent included in the list of radio commands. For example, you can key-bind q to say "STEP BACK, GRENADE COMING UP!" or "Walk, dont run". But make sure its configured to "say_team", not just "say"
Submitted by Irvington_Idiot_#2

Go For the Crotch!

When firing on full automatic, aim for the legs or the groin or something. This is because the recoil will kick the bullets higher and higher, so your 2nd or 3rd or so shot will land on the neck or the head. If youre close and sure of your accuracy, then by all means, aim straight for the head. But for long-range engagements with a weapon that has no scope, aiming lower will help.
Submitted by Irvington_Idiot_#2

Hostage Jump

On some cs maps, if youre playing with a buddy that you can talk to (like at a LAN party), you can pull off a "hostage jump" thatll get you into hard-to-reach places. Have the other guy crouch while hes next to a hostage. Then, jump onto the guy, then jump onto the hostage. Now, have the other guy lead you whereever you want to go. For example, using this trick, you can jump onto the light fixtures in the ceiling of assault. Here youre pretty much invisible and able to fire with impunity onto any CT that comes in.

Hide Hostages

In a Hostage Rescue Map, as a Terrorist, take a hostages with you to the most isolated and hidden spot you can find. That way the CTs will have a harder time finding the hostages and it will be easier for you to win (just remember to guard the hostage).

Use smoke Grenade AND Flashbang

Try to use a smoke/flashbang combo. Alot of players know to duck back if they see a grenade coming to avoid the flashbang. Throw the smoke grenda first, once the smoke screen has deployed, toss the flashbang. Your enemies will never know what hit them.

Do Not type

Never Type unless you are dead. It is a horrible habit to do so! If possible, use Radio Commands instead because if you type it makes you very vulnerable because first, you are not playing and second, it gives your opponent 2 seconds to kill you.

Try to Snipe "fast"

The key to a good snipe isnt in a slow aim, but to shoot quickly before the target has a chance to react. Many times, a constantly moving target will make you wait until your bead is sure. By the time youre able to take a good aim, theyre usually in firing range of you and youve lost your advantage. Also remember that the AWP is usually one shot / one kill, and that the Scout is usually two shots / one kill. Hit them fast and you cant go wrong

PRICING ALGORITHM

" Mizotawng ngeia tih ka duh vei nen, ka translate peih ta thlawt lo a ni e"

Overview: Most of the weapons and equipment in Counter-Strike have had the same prices since the day the game was first released. These prices greatly affect the overall balance of the game. We at Valve know we re not alone in thinking that some of the prices in the game have never been exactly what they should be. (Uh, night-vision?) But rather than tweaking the values ourselves, we thought we d rather let you decide. Coming soon in Counter-Strike: Source is a new system that sets the prices of what you can buy based on, well, what people are buying.
Starting on October 11th, the prices of weapons and equipment in Counter-Strike: Source will be updated each week based on the global market demand for each item. As more people purchase a certain weapon, the price for that weapon will rise and other weapons will become less expensive.
Gather player purchase data. Each week, the total number of weapons purchased world-wide since the previous week s change is counted. The purchase data is gathered directly from game servers. Every 24 hours, game servers upload a file to Steam listing the quantities of all items purchased over the course of the previous day.
Slice up the Money Pie. The new price for each weapon is based on the total amount of money spent on that weapon. The percentage of money spent on each weapon during the week is used to determine the percentage by which its price moves the next week. So if 10% of all dollars world-wide are spent on the Maverick M4A1 Carbine, then its price will increase by 10%.
A note about pistols. The purchasable items are split into two seperate groups: pistols, and everything else. This is an artificial segmentation of the economy designed to preserve Counter-Strike s "pistol round" -- the early period during which players can not yet afford the game s more powerful weapons. (If the pistols were included in the larger pool of prices, they would often become too expensive to afford during the beginning of a match.) Pistols are also given to players for "free" at the start of each round, which would artificially affect the economy.
Ups and Downs. In order to decide which items increase in value and which ones decrease, we order the list of all items based on the number of purchases for that weapon or piece of equipment for the previous week. We then split that list in half, with approximately 50% of global money spent above the line and 50% below. Items above the line increase in value, items below decrease.
A (somewhat) closed system. In Counter-Strike, each gameserver is its own instance of the game world. Unlike persistent "massively multiplayer" games, there is no open-ended economy. Until now, each gameserver presented its weapons and equipment for sale according to pre-set values which never changed. Now, the prices are dynamic. However, the total default amount of money available for players to spend on each server will be unchanged. At the start of a round, the default amount of money available for each player will remain $800.
It s all up to you. There is a massive community of people playing Counter-Strike, and for the first time the actions of the community are going to affect all Counter-Strike players. We re anxious to see the ways in which the game changes as a result of the global community of gamers exerting their influence. As always, let us know what you think.

Overview of Buying Equipment
In order to buy equipment, ammo, or weapons the player must be in a "shopping cart" area. A little green shopping cart will appear on the left hand side of the player s screen while he or she is able to buy goods. The default keyboard bind to pull up the "buy menu" is B . Pressing B will give the player a list of categories to purchase items from.

Counter Strike Strategy

Counter Strike Basic Strategies
1. Know your weapons

Know your weapons strength, weaknesses, and most of all how much ammo is in it. You should always be using the right weapon for the right scenario. For example you wouldn’t want to go into close quarters combat with a sniper rifle. So, you should switch to your pistols. Vice versa once you made it out of a close quarter’s area and your out in a wide open space switch back to your sniper rifle.

Also make sure your backup weapons are loaded and they are binded in case you need to quickly switch back to them.

Never Spray and Pray’ (Accuracy will keep you alive)

One of the most common mistakes that newbie’s will make is holding down the fire button. Holding down the fire button with automatic weapons will greatly reduce the player’s accuracy. In fact if they hold down the button too long they will hit anything but their target. Usually firing one to three rounds at a time is best.

2. Stay with your teammates

Never try to go off and play Rambo. Stay with friends and use team work to take out the enemy and stay alive. Think of this many real world tactics and strategies use team work. For example house clearing. Wouldn’t it be easier to have three players with you before you go through a door way while one teammate covers your back another watches the overhead area. And another throws a flash bang into the room. You are unlikely to be shot from behind, the enemy can’t rush out and kill you, and finally you never have to let your guard down not having a weapon ready since you are throwing a flash bang.

You might not get great support like this scenario in a pub server. You can still get one or two teammates to help you though. You will have to have your mic and good voice commands you are likely to coerce team members to cover your back and throw in a flash bang for you.

3. Use your Radar

Radar is perhaps the most blown off or unused tool in Counter Strike.
Radar is essential and there is no excuse for opening up on your teammates and friendly fire deaths.

Radar- Is the green circle icon on your screen that helps you know your location and your surroundings

Here are five important icons to remember

-A red dot represents the VIP (Only seen by CT’s on as_maps/bomb carrier is only seen by the T’s on de_maps
-A T shape represents a teammate a level above you.
-An upside down T shape represents a Team member a level below you.
-A yellow square represents a Teammate using the Radio

4. Use communication

IF you are going to excel in clan matches you’re going to have to use team strategies. To use any strategies or tactics you will need to communicate. So, you should bind essential radio commands that will help you communicate with your teammates. You can also get a decent mic and talk to your teammates. Just make sure all talk is not on obviously. Some players will even bind aliases to give text messages.

5. Use Stealth

Stealth is extremely important. Remember noise gives you away! Walking over grates, rooftops is especially loud, and don’t forget climbing ladders.

Use a M4 or usp with a silencer

Use a silenced weapon so you won’t give away your location. If you are a T this is even better; because the CT’s will not expect a sneaky T with a silenced M4a that he has acquired. Also it’s optimal to take out the enemy and not give away your exact location to the enemies.

Step Silent

Use the side of walls to walk along to slow your speed slightly and silence your steps. Even better you can crouch and use the walk key to slow and silence your steps.

Going up and down ladders

You can actually crouch while going down a ladder; and guess what you will make no noise at all. Going up or down a ladder you should walk into the wall while on the ladder. Make sure you only to move your mouse a tiny bit to ensure you go up or down. This way you can stay silent.

You can use stealth and still be offensive. You should practice stalking enemies by using your radar, listen for footsteps, all while keeping quiet and hidden yourself. Coming up on an unaware enemy at close range is an easy kill.

Stay in inconspicuous low lighted areas of the map. There is nothing wrong with hiding if you are low on health. Try this and you will be surprised at the number of players that will fly right by you.

6. Know your location and surroundings

Know where you are, your teammates, and where enemies are likely to be. You should always take a quick check to how many players are still alive too. Plus if you see that a member on your team just died and you know he was in a location ahead of you. You know that the enemy is in that location now.

Keeping the enemy guessing where you are at is crucial. Keep quiet and be prepared. If the enemy knows your location after a firefight you should move out of that area. If you have been spotted or it is too late keep your self moving in a way that you are unlikely to be hit by the enemy. Use quick strafing techniques while you take shots at the enemy. Popular techniques to make your self a hard target include the following.

Strafe and zigzag towards your enemy to take him out. Do it quickly so other teammates do not come to assist him or get to your location in time to help him.

Jump up and down to avoid being shot in the head. Players are used to changing their aim more horizontally than a drastic vertical change. Note: you can only do this now and then for a short time when you cannot avoid taking fire from the enemy. This is great if you have an AWP because jumping will not affect your aim.

Lure the enemy into an ambush. Run towards your teammates and get in position to take out the enemy that is chasing after you. This is great if you have low health and ammo.

Shoot then ambush: fire a few shots in the enemies’ general direction run back and take cover. While the enemy is searching for you take him out with a few shots. The great thing about this technique is the enemy is usually out in the open, they don’t know where you are, and you know exactly where they are at. Plus after you kill them they will feel a little stupid.

*Player3 meets up with Player4 under window room in alt-middle.
*Player4 flashes and smokes out left middle(library side). Player3 also smokes left mid.
*Player4, Player3, flash both sides of mid and push of mid, Player1 pushes out front apartment door, and Player5 delays out of back of apartment.
*Take the main bomb site, plant, and cover bomb.
*Timing is a key to this strat.

Spread Strat: (Player2 has bomb)
*Player3, Player5 work banana.
*Player2 and Player4 can work middle.
*Player1 can work the apartment.
*This is just a spread the team out and get picks strat. If the other team likes to push a lot, this could be a good strat as long as your team is smart enough to sit back and wait for the pushing CTs.

Ct Guide

Here are a few general tips on some things you can do to improve your game individually and as a team as a Counter-Terrorist:

*Communication is Key: Their are a few aspects to a team that makes the team strong on the Counter-Terrorist side of a match or scrim. One of these keys is good, efficient communication. One important part of this is making efficient and specific calls over ventrilo. You want to try to call the number of enemies, guns used by the enemies, and specific locations of the enemies with as little words as possible. One huge mistake I have seen is a team member calling "ALL B! ALL B!" when only 4 where in B. This can be a big mistake because one of your teammates may try to flank and not be looking out for a Terrorists who was waiting in a great spot for your teammate to flank. Also, your team should decide on specific names to call certain places and hiding spots around the map. This will help the whole team to know exactly where the enemies are when one of your teammates makes a call. Another thing that can be helpful is to call out flashes, smokes and the HE nades thrown by the enemy. This is another way to let your teammates know what is going on in your side of the map. One more thing is to cut the unnecessary talking on the mic. Try to refrain from talking about non-cs things in a serious scrim/match, and try to refrain from letting your whole team know how pissed you are every time you die. Lastly, let your teammates know when you are falling back, when you need backup, and when certain choke points have been compromised.

*Solid Teamwork and rotations: The other major key to having a good CT side is great teamwork and good rotations. This teamwork is based a lot on good communication, however. Good calls will allow your teammates to make good decisions on when to rotate and how fast. You want to rotate fast when you know the enemy is coming to a certain bombsite or choke point. You want to try to meet them before they can even get into the site and plant. This is not always possible though. In cases where you can't help your teammates in time, you want to wait for the rest of your teammates to get into position to re-take the bombsite instead of trying to take the bombsite back one by one. Your in game leader can help out with this by trying to get everyone coordinated and grouped up. After you are all ready to go, you should flash the bombsite and all try to retake the bombsite at the same time.

*Using HEs, flashes, and smoke grenades: All of these nades can have big advantages if used correctly. Using a flash is pretty easy, you want to use it to prevent rushes and to delay the other team while you wait for help from your teammates to help. Be careful, however, not to use your flashes wastefully. Good teams will try to delay their strats and get you to use up your flashes. This will leave them with a bunch of flashes and you with none. The HE, as a CT, is often misused. A lot of players try to use it to get kills. You should use the HE to suppress the Terrorists. This will give you another nade to hold of the Terrorists when they make their move and also buy you a few seconds for your teammates to rotate and help. An exception to this is that I have seen many top teams use the HE to secure a vital choke point. An example of this is a two player nade stack on the long A doors on dust2 right at the start of the round. Lastly, the most underappreciated nade on the CT side is the smoke grenade. The smoke grenade can be very usefull when you are trying to guard a small choke point for several reasons. The first reason is because the smoke may force the Terrorists to waste flashes because they are afraid of what is on the other side of the smoke. The second, and most important reason to use a smoke is because you can see the Terrorist in the smoke before they can see you. A good example of this is the back alley or Ivy part of de_train. If you use a smoke in the little alley, you will see a part of them when they are still lost in smoke.

*Know when to push: For the most part, you are going to want to stay back and guard the bombsites and choke points as a Counter-Terrorist. However, their are good times to push as well. A good flank can win you a round. Knowing when to push relies on two things: 1) How the other team is playing, and 2) communication. A few good times to push would be when the Terrorists are consistenly avoiding your choke point/bombsite or when you know where most of the enemies are. For example, if 4 of the enemies are rushing the other bombsite, it may be a good idea to try to push behind them and catch them off guard. When pushing, be very careful to check all the corners and good camping spots. You will most likely want to use a flash to help clear the choke point you are pushing threw as well.

*Setup Crossfires when possible: This something that can be really helpful if you are able to do it. It is only possible to use on certain maps and certain choke points. However, when used, it forces the Terrorists to check two complete different directions in order to clear a choke point. One good example of this is having two CTs going to long A with one in the pit and one between the pit and the car.

*Knowing when to Save guns and getting exit kills: Your team is not going to win every round, but their are a few things you can do that will help you win the following round. One of these things is knowing when to save your guns and when the round is unwinnable. Their are certain situations like a 2v5 with the bomb planted in which you have very little chance of winning. In this situation, it is statistically better to save the guns then to try to take the site back and lose both of your guns. By saving, you will have 2 guns and will be much more likely not to have to save. This is something that needs to be judged by your in game leader on a situational basis, but it is important that everyone is on the same page. You don't want 1 guy trying to take back a site and 1 guy saving. Also, when saving, it is a good idea to try to stay at a really save distance and to try to get some easy shots on Terrorists leaving the bombsite. Be careful not to lose your guns when doing this though. I will use another example from Dust2. A good idea, if you had an AWP and the bomb was planted at B, would be to sit in T spawn and wait for the Terrorist to try to exit from B tunnels. You will have an easy shot from their and also have an easy way to retreat if the Terrorists get to close.
